Week 20 2020 Product Spotlight – Scania P610 Intermediate Propshafts
On most truck drivelines you will find an intermediate propshaft and Scania trucks are no different. Sometimes referred to as the 'mid-shaft' or a 'centre bearing shaft', the intermediate propshaft is identified as the propshaft with a centre support bearing. There are no tricks when it comes to wordplay here; the job of the centre support bearing is to support the driveline in the centre.
Scania propshaft centre bearings are a bit different to what you see on other vehicle makes, but the function is the same. Pictured below you will see a typical Scania intermediate propshaft and the hanging brackets used to bolt the propshaft to the vehicle. All the below pieces can be replaced and are available as spare parts.
When it comes to selecting your Scania centre bearing, it is important that you use the correct replacement. Not all Scania centre bearings are the same! The same applies to the hanging brackets which clamp around the centre bearing and bolt to the vehicle. If you are not sure, speak to your propshaft expert and they will be able to help you find the right parts. These propshafts will also contain a universal joint at the other end which is another common service part.
