Audi propshaft repair and manufacture: Audi Q7
The Audi Q7 is part of the same family of vehicles as the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne, sharing a number of aspects of their mechanicals whilst at the same time having clear brand differentiation. So the propshaft design for the Q7 is the same as the Touareg and the Cayenne with a twin shaft propshaft with a rubber coupling on the gearbox end and a CV on the differential end. It too has a plunging CV joint in the centre, and next to this is the Centre bearing which is mounted to the propshaft.
The technical weakness to the propshaft is this centre bearing and specifically the rubber on the centre bearing that can perish quite easily, particularly if the vehicle is regularly subject to towing work, or is subject to quite an aggressive or hard driving style. The centre bearing can be replaced if required. However, alternative repair options will also be discussed with the customer depending on the mileage of the vehicle and the budget available.
